Remove Excess Exudate

A photo showing excess exudate.

Healing may be impaired by the presence of excess or purulent wound exudate.

Excess Exudate
The aim of removing excess exudate is to promote wound healing. This can be achieved by using foams and other absorbent dressings. Exudate that leaks from beneath the dressings may macerate surrounding healthy tissue.

Bacterial Balance
High bacterial count on a wound may impair healing.  Use of antimicrobial dressings will assist in maintaining appropriate bacterial levels.
