To illustrate the impact on an individual patient and hospital, read through the following case study.

Doris, a 77 year old lady with peripheral vascular disease and diabetes, had a left below knee amputation performed in November 2004 for arterial insufficiency. Post surgery, Doris developed a Stage 2 PU (blister) on her right heel. She currently has a dry necrotic right heel PU and compromised arterial blood flow in her right leg.
