Where pressure areas develop
Pressure areas usually develop on bony areas such as toes, ankles, heels, elbows or the tailbone.

The diagram below shows areas of the body where pressure areas are most likely to occur.

The 2007 PUPPS survey found that 50% of pressure ulcers occurred on residents' feet.

The toes are a high risk area, and rapid deterioration can occur from skin to bone due to the lack of protective structures.
