Identifying residents at risk
To determine if the resident has any of the risk factors which may increase their risk of developing a pressure ulcer, a review of the whole person is necessary. Risk factors may include:
- diabetes
- chronic heart failure
- heart disease
- reduced tissue oxygenation (for example, from smoking or anaemia)
- cancer
- lung disease (for example, emphysema)
- chest infection
- poor circulation
- immune deficiency
