What is a stage 4 pressure area?
In a stage 4 pressure area there will be full thickness skin loss with extensive destruction, tissue death or damage to muscle, bone, or supporting structures (for example, tendon or joint capsule).
Undermining and sinus tracts may also be associated with a stage 4 pressure area.
In this type of pressure area, sinus tracts may occur in any direction, but they often run downwards.
