What happens if pressure areas are not cared for?

If pressure areas are not treated and the pressure is not relieved, pressure ulcers can occur.

Pressure ulcers often look relatively minor, a redness of skin, however they can hide more damage under the skin’s surface. Pressure ulcers are painful and they can become infected. In severe cases, they can spread deeply under the skin and underlying muscle or bone may be destroyed.
