What forms of reduced or altered levels of consciousness and sensation are risk factors?
A number of risk factors are related to reduced or altered levels of consciousness and sensation from:
- neurological conditions (for example, Parkinson's disease or stroke)
- some medications
- diabetes
- major surgery
- spinal cord injury.
Think about the residents in your care. Are any of them at risk of developing pressure areas because of reduced or changed levels of consciousness and sensation? Where might the pressure areas develop?
