When should residents be checked?

As you assist residents throughout your time at work, you have the opportunity to observe their behaviours, actions and posture. In addition, during conversations with residents and other staff, there is opportunity to monitor potential pressure area risks.

Important Identifying residents at risk should be an ongoing part of your daily work.
Residents should be checked:
  • when they first move into the residential service
  • on a regular basis throughout each day
  • when there has been a change in the resident’s physical or mental state, for example, reduced mobility, weight loss or gain, poor eating, infection or a health problem.
