What should residents know about pressure areas?

Wherever possible, residents should be made aware of the risks of pressure areas developing. They should be assured that they can talk to you at any time if they are concerned about their skin condition.

Let your residents know that they should check their skin regularly, (possibly twice a day) and let you know if there are any signs of damage. Talk to residents who are willing and able about how they can inspect their skin. Residents who have reduced mobility (for example, those using wheelchairs), can use mirrors to inspect body areas they cannot easily see.
